Rocking the Earth: Unearthing Hidden Treasures.

TOPAZ MOUNTAIN

Our rock hounding adventures kicked off with a bang, starting with a three-hour road trip to the legendary Topaz Mountain. (The idea started from some YouTube videos and a Rock Hounding handbook that we got on amazon.) Filled with anticipation and excitement, Mariah and I were ready to dive into the world of sparkling gems right away!

Arriving on a scorching summer day armed with a couple hammers, crowbars, and flathead screwdrivers. For how far we had traveled the landscape was surprisingly scattered with fellow enthusiasts but we were undeterred by the crowds. We delved headfirst into the experience, learning the art of identifying and extracting topaz crystals quickly. Within the first 30 minutes we had found some small Topaz pieces that we had been looking for, and that boosted our spirits even more. We stayed for about 2 hours in the heat learning what we could before setting off back home. Despite the heat and bustling surroundings, our first foray into rock hounding proved to be a success, setting the stage for more adventures that would follow.

COLORADO

Our rock hounding journey took an unexpected turn on our trip to The Red Rock Amphitheater to see Brit Floyd cover band, Luck was on our side when Mariah's parents snagged an Airbnb that granted us access to vast stretches of public land abundant with petrified wood. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature, we immersed ourselves in the rich history and geological wonders of the area. Any time we were at the cabin in the woods (yes, that's really what its called.) we would adventure out trying to find more treasure of the past. Each piece of petrified wood seemed to tell a story of time itself, and we left not just with physical souvenirs but also with a deepened appreciation for the geological marvels hidden in plain sight.

PELICAN POINT

Now, let me take you to our final expedition, where we ventured to what seemed to be a quiet and unassuming Pelican point, nestled near Utah Lake only 45 minutes from where we live. Navigating multiple dirt roads about 8 miles, past handfuls of public shooting areas that were in use. We discovered a secluded haven for pyrite enthusiasts; You wouldn't know it at first glance, but we were armed with the knowledge gained from our previous trips, and some tips from some close friends. We eagerly explored the area, unearthing a handful of small but captivating pyrite pieces. The solitude of the location added to the charm, we only saw 2 other people in the rock hounding area. It really allowed us to connect with nature and savor the raw beauty of these geological wonders.

From the bustling hills of Topaz Mountain to the unexpected riches of Colorado's petrified wood

and the tranquil beauty of Pyrite Mountain, Mariah and I have had a rock hounding adventure marked by learning, exploration, and a deep appreciation for the Earth's hidden gems. Each trip not only filled our bags with unforgettable treasures but also left an lasting impression on our hearts, solidifying our passion for the fascinating world of rock hounding. As we reflect on these experiences, we're eagerly anticipating the next chapter in our quest to uncover the geological wonders that lie beneath the Earth's surface.

Stay tuned for more rock-hounding tales and sparkling adventures! We will see you next week with a new story. Thank you for all the love and support on our dream of The Crystal Cafe.
